Understanding the Impeachment Inquiry of President Trump

By Thomas Gibbons

Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced Tuesday afternoon that the House of Representatives is moving forward with an impeachment inquiry into President Trump.

Before getting into why Pelosi wants to move on impeachment, we must first know what is an impeachment inquiry.

An impeachment inquiry is the House Judiciary Committee’s investigation into whether there’s enough evidence for an impeachment case against a federal official to go forward. Members of the committee must decide whether to write articles of impeachment and present them to the rest of the House for a vote on impeachment.

The motive for this impeachment inquire comes from President Trump and his conversation with the President of Ukraine back in July. Trump asked President Volodymyr Zelensky to cooperate with William Barr, the Attorney General of the United States, and Rudy Giuliani, who is currently President Trump’s attorney, in looking into Hunter Biden, Vice President Joe Biden’s son.

“This week, the president has admitted to asking the president of Ukraine to take actions which would benefit him politically,” Pelosi said Tuesday at the Capital. “The actions of the Trump presidency revealed dishonorable facts of the president’s betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections.”

The White House released the transcript of the call Wednesday morning via Twitter.

President Trump has been very active on Twitter since Speaker Pelosi made the announcement of an impeachment inquiry. He continues to use the words “Witch Hunt” in reference to the Russian Collusion case and now the impeachment inquiry. Trump would post this video Tuesday afternoon via Twitter shortly after the impeachment inquiry was announced.
