Hello readers!
I want to welcome you to the last edition of the paper, and my final edition as editor-in-chief (EIC).
As I bid a tearful goodbye, writing for the Dominican Star these past four years has been one of the greatest pleasures of my college career.
When I came to Dominican looking for a place to belong, I ultimately found a home at the Star. I’ve met so many incredible people, wrote impactful stories, and most importantly, I found my voice.
Walking into my first production, I never would have imagined that I would be EIC four years later. Over time, not only have I become a better writer, but I’ve learned how to be a leader and set a good example for the rest of my team.
I went from a shy girl who didn’t know how to write a news story, to a confident and determined EIC.
I loved telling your stories and bringing them to life. I even loved covering stories where admin refused to talk to me.
I first want to thank my advisor, Dr. Jenks, for believing in me more than I believe in myself. Thank you for always pushing me to put myself out there and encouraging me to accomplish my goals, even if it scares me. I want to thank my parents for motivating me to pursue journalism, and lastly, thank you to my team; your hard work and passion have not gone unnoticed.
I’m so incredibly proud of the work the Star has produced this year, and I’m positive that coverage will get better and better each year.
Although my time at the Star has come to an end, my professional career is only just beginning.
At the end of the day, I can say that I’m proud and satisfied with the work that I’ve done. I’ve served my purpose, and now it’s time for the next group of writers and editors to carry the torch.
I hope you enjoy this edition of the Star and continue to follow us next year!
XOXO
Your Editor-in-Chief,
Bianca Dinkha
