The Dominican Star, the student newspaper of Dominican University, is published on selected Tuesdays each semester.

Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to voice their opinions to the editor. All letters must be typed, signed and include a phone number. Letters should not exceed words and should be emailed to domstarnews@gmail.com. The Star reserves the right to edit submissions for length, style and standards of good taste.

This publication presents opinions that do not necessarily reflect those of the editors, reporters, faculty or the administration of Dominican University.

John Jenks | He, Him | Faculty Adviser, Communication Professor

Dr. John Jenks has been advising the Star for most of the past 25 years. Before coming to Dominican, Jenks was a professional journalist in the South and Midwest.

Michael Del Genio | He, Him | Deputy Editor

“My name is Michael Del Genio, I’ve been writing for the Dominican Star for two years under the Sports Editor title and now Deputy Editor. I’m also involved in athletics as a member of the baseball team at Dominican University and the student athlete advisory committee.“

Felciano Martinez | He, Him | Chief Designer

“My name is Feliciano Martinez, but I also go by Felix. I am a senior majoring in Graphic Design and minoring in Social Media. In my free time, I enjoy going for long walks and listening to music.”

Reyna Valencia | She, Her | Social Media Manager

“Hello! I am a third-year student majoring in Corporate Communication with a minor in social media. I’ve been working with The Dominican Star since Fall of 2025. I spend a lot of my time creating content for The Star, another organization on campus, and myself from time to time. In my free time I love gardening, spending time with my cat, and trying out new recipes from scratch.”

“I love anything music related and have recently started learning to play guitar and piano! I like to listen to a little bit of everything but mainly drawn to pop and rock genres. I also enjoy writing, hence why I joined the newspaper!”

Joseph Zuniga | He, Him | Junior, Assignment Editor

“I am a third-year student majoring in Digital Journalism with a minor in social media. My expected graduation date is May 2027. I have been writing for the Dominican Star since Sophomore year. In the future, I hope to go into sports journalism with my bachelor’s degree.”

A Vice President of DU Skate club, Backus works to polish grammar, check facts, and clean up all articles before handing them off to the rest of the team.
