The women and men’s soccer teams fought hard in NCAA tournament games this weekend but were ultimately defeated.

The women’s team was defeated in the second round by Washington University 0-1 and the men lost in the first round to St. Olaf College, 0-3.

Student Life hosted a watch party in the Social Hall this weekend for the men’s and women’s soccer games.

Saturday, the women played against Hanover College at Washington University in St. Louis.

Off to a delayed start, 15 minutes in, Hanover College shot a goal making the score 0-1.

They ended the first half with a score of 0-1.

The second half began, and fans were getting restless. The women were putting up a good fight when suddenly senior midfielder Hannah Anderson scored a goal with an assist from defender Alexandria Canarelli with 15 minutes to spare.

The crowd went wild, and people stood up as the score tied neck-and-neck 1-1.

Then a second goal was scored by midfielder Regan Coxon with less than three minutes to go and put Dominican in the lead with a 2-1 score.

The final score was 2-1 with a win for the women’s soccer team.

They continued to the second round of the tournament and played against Washington University Sunday afternoon in St. Louis.

The first half was a high-intensity experience as students sat on the edge of their seats hoping for the women to beat WashU.

The first half ended with no goals scored and the score sitting at 0-0.

Mack Gonzalez, a senior who was at the event, said, “that was stressful! The girls were keeping it tight. They were playing a good game, they had me on the edge of my seat.”

The women’s team played a tough round when suddenly WashU scored and put them in the lead. Fans were getting anxious and desperate for a turnaround.

“We can do it! We just need two more points in the last 10 minutes just like yesterday!” Gonzalez said.

After a long second half, the women unfortunately could not make a comeback and lost the game.

The men’s team played Saturday in Northfield, Minnesota, against St. Olaf College. They put up a good fight in the first half but ended 0-1 with a goal made by St. Olaf.

During halftime, students waited eagerly for a turnaround in the second half. A buzz of excitement rippled through the hall as soon as the second half started.

In the first 20 minutes of the second half, St. Olaf scored two more goals making the score 0-3.

Unfortunately, the men’s team could not make a comeback and ultimately lost the game.

Carlos “Torro” Gomez, a junior and dedicated fan of the men’s team, was disappointed with the results but proud of the team’s efforts.

“I am very proud of what the men’s soccer team has accomplished this season,” Torro said. “Unfortunately, we could not get the result we wanted, but we have to stay optimistic for better days ahead.”

Anthony Dellocono, a sophomore player on the men’s team, said, “I’m a little bit disappointed but I’m proud of how we did this season.”
