Letter From The Editor

By Chelsea Zhao

Hello from the last digital issue of the Dominican Star! It’s the end of a journey and start to a new chapter. What a dedicated year it has been as we featured multiple writers and students from various disciplines and backgrounds. In this letter to you all, I would like to take a moment to acknowledge all the people who make the Star so special.

As you can imagine, managing an eight-page spread issue is nothing short of extraordinary. But we were only able to do so through the unrelenting work ethics of the team. The organized layout and harmony of text and photos are the insight of our graphic designers Cristian Raya, David Zlotnik and Sam Cole. The timeliness of the social media posts is the work of Rachel Huser. The copy-editing and error-free content are under the thoughtful direction of Shonda Dudlicek and Daniela Tovar-Miranda. And the words you are reading now, from our comprehensive website, is the dedication of Azhley Rodriguez.

This year, we also featured the perspectives of some students for the first time. Matthew Desmond, an English major, has been a regular writer for reviews and profile stories. Emily Ford wrote extensively on news inside and outside of campus. Students from the news reporting class, fashion and nutrition science departments also weaved their voices in the Star.

Many of us, really, are learning daily—we stayed longer than needed, we covered topics we are not accustomed to, and we learned to take photos fast. We pushed ourselves this far because we want to prove that the Star you are holding is more than a paper but a documentation of what we’ve been through.

With that in mind, thank you once again for staying along for the ride. And may a new year bring us once more to unforgettable memories and stimulating ideas.
