Fun Activities to do in the Fall

By: Betsy Carreño

The leaves are changing color, the air is turning crisp, and pumpkin spice is here, which can only mean one thing. Autumn is back!

For many people, this seasonal change can bring a lot of challenges. Fewer daylight hours can bring new stresses to everyday life, and the cold weather brings the added problem staying inside more. But being able to romanticize the season can be relieving and bring comfort.

Some things students can do on the Dominican campus is walk the labyrinth. This is a mandala like path located on the side of Parmer Hall.

You can also have a study date in the quad or read a cozy book in the 3rd floor library rocking chair.

Something else that can help romanticize autumn is to decorate your room. Adding pumpkins, leaves, and dark lighting can create a new setting to reintroduce fall into our lives. Cobwebs and jelly window stickers can also add a new ambience to the place.

There’s also, of course, the staple fall events that everyone can look forward to. Going apple picking and to pumpkin patches are some classic fall activities. With activities like these, it’s usual to drink hot apple cider, and go on hayrides.

Some more homey fall activities for those cold autumn days would be baking, lighting candles, writing letters, watching scary movies, and planning your Halloween outfit.

Some of my favorite movies to watch during fall are “Coraline”, The “Twilight” movies, and “I’m Thinking of Ending Things”.

As for some fall shows worth binging over, “Gilmore Girls”, “Wednesday”, “You”, and “A Series of Unfortunate Events” are always my go to.

When asking Dominican student, Oriana Solis, what she enjoyed the most about fall she said, “My favorite fall activity is anything related to pumpkins and going to pumpkin patches and decorating them with friends and family, and also baking.”

It’s important to romanticize the little things during the fall. Going on walks around nature to see the different colored leaves, while also making piles of leaves to jump on can always be something simple and fun to do.

Something else I enjoy doing during the fall is exploring different coffee shops and bookstores, while also planning new fall outfits.

For those who don’t mind getting wet, going on walks in the rain can also be a fun activity.

After asking Solis why she appreciated the autumn activities she said, “I like this because the weather is nice, and it feels cozy to do all those things.”

While there are many more things to do in the fall, these are some starter ideas to have for when you need to do something to rewind. It’s also great to have some activities in mind for when hanging out with friends, family, or significant others.

Although autumn just started, I’m excited for what is to come, and the fall outfits around campus to be seen.
