Dominican Hosts Successful Virtual Hiring Event Tailored Toward Students

By Rachel Huser

Forty Dominican students had a customized virtual hiring event last week, meeting representatives from four employers, including Jewel-Osco and the Department of Children and Family Services.

The three-hour gathering was Dominican’s first virtual hiring event, said Maria Gutierrez, associate director of career development.

Gutierrez said students told her it was helpful; she plans on surveying them to get more detailed feedback.

Employers also found the event helpful. They were able to get students’ contact information following the event to let them know of future employment opportunities.

“It worked because it was tailored to the students,” said Gutierrez.

Gutierrez plans to host another virtual hiring event next month with one to three employers in attendance. She plans to host an Instagram Live video the day before to introduce the employers and give students the opportunity to ask questions before the actual event the next day.
