Summer and Fall Plans in Place to Reopen Campus

According to the Summer & Fall Plan posted by Dominican University. Here are the changes in place for the summer session and fall semester.

Summer Plan:

Lewis Hall front door and Welcome Information Desk (WID) reopens on June 15, with staff and essential office workers. North door of Parmer Hall opens on July 6, with the WID staffed and all key offices open.

All offices open, with safety measures, on July 13. A plan for visitors will also be in place.

Rebecca Crown Library reopens on August 17. Students, authorized guests, and university staff will have limited access.

Fall Plan:

For the Fall semester, Dominican University continues its plan to have face-to-face classes. However, the density of the classes is advised by state orders.

The University prioritizes classes over meetings. Large meeting rooms such as Mulroy, Lewis, Cusack as well as dining room, classrooms, and auditorium at Priory Campus will be classrooms, as needed. Most meetings will be assembled online.

Resident students will be expected to be assigned to single rooms this fall. To encourage social distancing, Aquinas Hall at Priory will also be used as a quarantine space if necessary.

According to Student Life’s latest updates, housing assignments for residents will be available on July 15. Updates on safety expectations will be made to housing contract. July 31 is the last day to cancel a housing contract without a penalty fee.

Athletes can return to campus as early as June. Safeguards and facilities will have limited access. The university is optimistic about the fall athletic season. However, fans are not encouraged in the stands.

Plexiglas barriers are being installed in key service areas. The access and arrangement of the library, tech center, fitness center, dining and social spaces will change according to social distancing rules. Masks will be required for all in public spaces on campus.

The university’s plans are informed by Governor JB Pritzker’s Phase 3 of Restore Illinois, a five-phased plan to safely reopen the state.

Pritzker announced “Phase 3: Recovery” on May 28th, outlining remote learning in schools, limited summer programs, reopening of state parks, and gathering of 10 or fewer with social distancing.

Housing’s updates are informed by Illinois State’s reopening requirements and Public Health and Centers for Disease Control (CDC).
