The votes are counted for student elections and the new team is ready to take on the year. The SGA president this year is Christian Kalekas, replacing Carson Harvey.
Many students have been receiving emails telling them to vote for candidates for the student government. With the election being over, Dominican has chosen the most fit candidates for the five different positions and class senators.
As the DU community grows post-pandemic, the SGA plans on making positive changes on campus and will take feedback from the Dominican community.
Kalekas, expressed some new changes that we can expect from SGA. He said that the “student government is currently in the process of establishing a partnership with UPASS. This partnership is an opt-in process for students and will offer a discounted rate for train rides.”
This will be beneficial for commuters who have trouble getting to their classes and may lessen parking issues on campus.
“The main goal of student government for this school year is establishing a stronger connection between the faculty members and the student population and addressing issues quicker than in years past,” Kalekas said.
Vice President, Matt Galdi is glad to be back on the SGA staff. He is taking on a bigger role this semester and spoke on the way he wants to manage his time to make sure he completes his goals for the SGA.
Galdi said, “The biggest thing for me is just worrying about time management and planning out time in my day to complete everything I need to.”
The first meeting for SGA was held on Wednesday Oct. 4 and the representatives are looking forward to helping students have a great year.
