This past August, Dominican University hosted its annual DU Fest to celebrate the start of a new school year. Held in the quad, the event featured a variety of booths with activities and freebies.
Mai Diaz, a first-year student, said, “I like how there were stands telling you about all these other organizations and how they had incentives.” An example is the Organization of Latin American Students (OLA). OLA’s Event Coordinator and sophomore Nadia Silva said,
“It was fun and like just being able to talk to everybody this year and to have my contribution this year.”
Her booth featured delicious aguas frescas for those who stopped by. In addition to the free food and drinks the booths gave, various food trucks were stationed in Circle Drive, causing long lines to form all around the quad.
Events like DU Fest can be overwhelming for incoming freshmen looking to form new friendships, but as Junior Bruno Brown put it,
“DU Fest is a way in which they help introduce everybody…and be able to make an even wider group of friends.”
DU Fest brought out a lot of positives, but that does not mean it was flawless. Freshman Abby D. Tirado said she arrived on time for the event but explained,
“I didn’t get wristbands or tickets.”
Despite this setback, it did not affect her fun at DU Fest as she said,
“Other than that, DU Fest was fun, the DJ played the songs, and people were dancing!”
It is safe to say that Dominican University has yet another successful DU Fest under its belt.
