Dominican University’s President Donna M. Carroll, who has been in that position since 1994, has announced she will retire at the end of the academic year.

In a letter to students, President Carroll reminisces about the past, noting that the Dominican sisters took a big chance on hiring a “non-nun” 26 years ago. “My legacy is now your opportunity,” Carroll wrote. “Sometimes different is exactly is exactly what an organizations needs to grow and thrive.”

The accomplishments and awards are endless for President Carroll. Some highlights are in 1997, she led the academic community through a successful name change from Rosary College to Dominican University. Today, Dominican is ranked by U.S. News & World Report among the top 20 master’s level universities in the Midwest. For awards, Dr. Carroll also has been identified as one of the “100 Women of Influence” by Today’s Chicago Woman, a Chicago Tribune “Remarkable Woman,” and was listed among the top ten women in education by the Chicago Sun-Times

The Dominican Star staff is planning to speak with President Carroll this week and write a feature story for the upcoming print issue of the Dominican Star, which is scheduled to be on the newsstands on Tuesday, October 13th.
