The Elizabeth T. MacNeil School of Nursing introduces a new nursing cohort for the upcoming spring semester.
Tamara Bland, dean of Borra College of Health Science, explained that market demand for nurses and strong student interest in the nursing program influenced the creation of the cohort.
“With a higher demand for nurses, adding an additional incoming start provides legacy,” said Bland. “It also transfers students the ability to begin their nursing education in August or January.”
The incoming students will begin the spring semester like the current students did by taking the same courses.
The new cohort plans to feature a small group of 10 to 12 students as accommodation from faculty will not change the current nursing curriculum.
Since its founding nearly 10 years ago, the nursing school has offered a four-semester program that only started in the fall semester, but the new cohort breaks that pattern.
In 2022, the school was awarded the Lectureship Award for Diversity Equity, Inclusion, and Sustainability in Nursing Education from the American Association of Colleges and Nursing (AACN).
The AACN is the “national voice for academic nursing” by providing excellence through all nursing education.
The Lectureship Award is considered one of the AACN’s most prestigious honors.
