President Donna Carroll was the recipient of the 2014 Sister Mary Clemente Davlin Diversity Leadership Award. “It’s wonderful…it’s humbling, it’s lovely,” Carroll said.

Two staff members nominated Carroll for the award. The nominations were submitted to the Committee on Climate, Equity and Inclusion, who reviewed the nominations and made the final decision.

Carroll believes her work with diversity and the implementation of the new Title IX rules are what caused her to be chosen. “The decision to appoint a chief diversity officer was important to move forward. It has been such a strong institutional year.” Carroll said.

The award was presented to Carroll at the fifth annual Caritas Veritas Symposium last week. Classes were suspended so Dominican students, faculty, staff and guest speakers could gather to learn, teach and dialogue. There were almost 50 sessions at the symposium on a variety of topics relating to carrying out Dominican’s mission of truth and love in a community setting.
