Throwback Article: Commuters Struggle with Parking in ‘84

By Nicholas Tamas-Orlandea

Commuter parking has always been an issue at Dominican, but was it always like this? Well, that might be the case.

In October 1984, an article on problems with commuter parking was published to the Rosary Reporter, which is now known as The Star.

The article discussed how many commuters dealt with major parking problems such as how spaces are limited and scarce.

Back then, the streets had no parking at all since commuters only had two-hour parking as well as no parking on weekdays during typical class hours.

Even now, with new signs posted for resident only parking on Park Avenue, similar problems were faced.

Years before the parking garage was built, parking was extremely limited at the time; notice the image of how parking was much different for commuters.

Now, with the garage, which sits on what was the old science building, still doesn’t seem to have fixed issues with parking. Even 40 years later, students have continued to face problems.
