Graduation is approaching. Many, if not all seniors, are looking ahead to May 8, commencement day. They are looking ahead to moving on from Dominican to start the next chapter in their lives.
However, for those looking to leave a legacy on their (almost) former institution, consider looking into the Senior Class Gift Committee.
The committee is a Dominican tradition that raises funds for scholarships, DU Feeds and more, writes Joanna Skubish, assistant director of annual giving programs, in an email. Committee members will be recognized at the Candle and Rose Ceremony on May 7.
It is not too late to join the organization. Eight seniors have already joined. Gabby Green is one of them.
“Seniors should join because then their voices will be heard,” she said. “It’s really not too time-consuming. It’s one meeting every three weeks for an hour.”
Senior Donald Johnson echoes a similar call: “I think people should join the committee because it is an easily accessible way to contribute to your school. The events and class gifts are unique each year, which gives seniors a chance to leave their own mark on the University before they graduate.”
During the meetings, committee members help select prizes and a Class of 2022 T-shirt design for seniors who make a gift. Furthermore, they help plan the Almost Alumni senior celebration and spread the word to other seniors about the committee. Students should reach out to Joanna Skubish at jskubish@dom.edu for more information.
