Four altars on-campus will inscribe memories of loved ones in Dia de los Muertos ofrenda(s).
The theme of this year’s ofrenda is “Nuestras pérdidas y esperanzas; Our Losses and Our Hopes.” Four altars sit on the 2nd Floor Lewis alcove, Parmer Atrium, WeatherTech Innovation Lab (WIL) and the Center for Cultural Liberation (CCL) features photo, art, and recipes of the DU community’s lost loved ones.
The ofrenda is co-sponsored by University Ministry, Rebecca Crown Library, WIL, CCL, and Performing Arts Center (DUPAC).
The altars will feature three types of items: photos, artwork, and recipes y recuerdos to honor various artistic expressions in the DU community. The recipes y recuerdos feature shared stories and food that represent a person’s image placed on the altar.
The WIL will portray the digital photos and artworks that reflect loved ones in their Pop-Up Exhibit. The exhibition is held from November 1st to 5th.
The blessing of the photos takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 2nd at 12 p.m. in the Parmer Atrium. The journey of blessing will meander among the four altars from the atrium to WIL, to the 2nd floor Lewis Alcove and end in the CCL along with a Convivencia in the UMinistry Center. A mariachi band will also accompany the crowd along with servings tamales.
