Dominican celebrated the start of the year by recognizing faculty and student achievements at the 14th annual Caritas Veritas Symposium.

The event was held on Sept. 19 and began with an academic convocation, where all faculty members dressed in their regalia.  Everyone was encouraged to reflect on the year celebrate all achievements of the Dominican community.

There were plenty of speeches given by students, guest speakers, and faculty as well as a beautifully sung performance.

The Sr. Mary Clemente Davlin OP Award for Diversity Leadership was presented to Dr. José Blanco F. for his outstanding work as a professor in the fashion department.

The Collegium Visionary Award was awarded to Dr. Loreto Peter Alonzi for strong leadership as well as promoting the Catholic mission.

After the convocation, two sessions were held with plenty of options for students to attend.  Many sessions focused on environmental issues, health inequality, racial issues, and food insecurity.

This year, there were many people attending this event compared to the last few years.

Once the sessions concluded, a large community celebration was held.  Burgers and tamales were served in dining hall.

Outside, arepas and tacos were being served from two different food trucks. The lines were very long despite the dreary, wet weather.

The 2023 Caritas Veritas day was an amazing way to kick off the year.
