Letter from the Editor

Dear DU Community,

I am certain that the sudden drop in temperature on the 21st caught everyone by surprise. Nevertheless, your resilience and curiosity to learn made the Caritas Veritas Day the crowning moment of September. Whether you joined on Zoom or in-person here on campus, I am sure you were equally enlightened by the insights of speakers from all walks of life.

The first autumnal air also brought a deepening sense of normal. From the cheering crowds of the soccer tailgate (two of our staff were on the field) to the civic engagement and student involvement fair, the highlight of the month is the U.S. News & World Report Rankings: DU was ranked #1 in best value in Illinois, #3 for social mobility and #6 in undergraduate teaching in the Midwest. And among a list of 160 regional universities, it’s inspiring to see DU ranked #10. #GoStars!

As the Biden administration pushes for a more rigorous vaccination plan, the Wellness Center continues to monitor COVID-19 cases on-campus. While we enjoy the relative peace of this period, we must also remember how it all came down to us to maintain it. Because we can never have the full scope of the college experience without a strict adherence to health and community expectations. And to be vaccinated and wearing a face mask in public areas means not only self-protection but also community-mindedness.

So, with that in mind, I wish you all a warm fall spent with laughter, good food and continuing strength for the future.
