In the annual event of the Super Bowl where most people tune in to watch a football game, my favorite part is the free concert — or better known as the halftime show!

This year, the 2022 Super Bowl included an intense game between the Los Angeles Rams and the Cincinnati Bengals. The Rams ultimately won with a close score of 23-20.

But what everyone was dying to see had to be the halftime show.

This year, Jay Z’s talent agency Roc Nation produced the halftime show with headliners including Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, 50 Cent, Mary J. Blige, Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. A perfect combination of new and old generation hip hop music.

This was also the first year that hip-hop would take over the halftime show.

Twitter went crazy for this spectacular ode to the ’90s and I have to say, I agree.

I thought the artistry and song choices each artist chose were the perfect balance between songs each generation would be familiar with but also some bangers from their discography.

Dr. Dre opened the show behind a mock mixing board highlighting his career as a producer. While Snoop Dogg casually crip walked across the stage and effortlessly rapped, “California Love.”

The rapper 50 Cent paid tribute to his iconic music video by making an upside-down entrance for his performance of “In da Club.”

Newcomer, Kendrick Lamar, who’s said to be the new generation of hip hop, performed his songs “M.a.a.D City” and “Alright.” It was cool to get the classic side of hip-hop and the new generation of it as well.

Eminem rapped his smash single “Lose Yourself,” and at the end of his performance, he took a knee in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement against police brutality. I thought that was a powerful moment, especially during an NFL sponsored event.

Overall, I’d say the show was spectacular and musically brilliant. I had fun reminiscing about music from my early childhood and singing along with my family in the living room. Oh, and the game was pretty good too!
