Dominican University partners with Loop Medical Center for a Moderna vaccination opportunity to DU community.
The vaccination is for students, faculty and staff over 16 years old. The site with 150 appointments available will take place starting Friday at 8 a.m. at Priory Campus’ dining hall and registration can be found here.
According to Dr. Elizabeth Ritzman, director of the Wellness Center, around 80 people have registered since 1 p.m. today.
Those interested should bring their Dominican ID cards with them. For those who are registering for a second shot of Moderna vaccine, they should bring documentation of their first shot.
There is no set deadline for the registration. DU community members can register as late as the day of the vaccination, as long as there are enough vaccines. Ritzman urges early registrations for a more efficient process.
Through the registration link, the website also asks for scans of driver’s licenses as a federal requirement. Students and staff can also scan their Dominican ID as a substitute.
According to Ritzman, the name and address goes to the government but there will not be any reportings for anyone who is undocumented.
The first dose will be administered on Friday, April 30. The group will return to campus to administer second doses on Friday, May 28.
The reason for this vaccination opportunity is due to the increase of mass vaccination centers and increase of offering different position practices around the city.
The Wellness Center is looking into requirements for becoming a vaccine provider.
According to the CDC, Moderna COVID-19 vaccine (mRNA-1273) is manufactured by ModernaTX, Inc. The shot is given in the muscle of the upper arm. The two required shots are 28 days apart. The vaccine was 94.1% effective in preventing laboratory-confirmed COVID-19 cases.
Loop Medical Center is a group of physicians and medical professionals with locations in Oak Park, South Loop, Streeterville and Lincoln Park. The CovidLab Chicago, a part of the Loop Medical Center, also offers organizational COVID-19 testing, at-home test kits and antibody testing.
