DU Sports Report: Week of 1/19

By Thomas Gibbons

It is another great day to be a Star!

Igini Sports Forum will feature a men’s and women’s basketball double header as Benedictine travels to River Forest on Saturday. Both teams lost to the Eagles earlier this season so there will be some extra motivation to bring home the win.

In other sports, Men’s Volleyball is officially underway. The 15th ranked Stars traveled to Marian University in Wisconsin and won in straights sets. Junior Jack McGuire dished out 36 assists in the Stars routing over the Sabers. Other top players from the match included All-American Ethan Klosak, who collected eight kills on just 13 swings and Junior Troy Kates added eight kills and three blocks.

Women’s basketball keeps on rolling

The Stars extended the winning streak to seven as they traveled to Milwaukee School of Engineering on Wednesday and defeated the Raiders 49-39. Alexis Hoskins led the Stars in scoring with 13 points. Nyema Burns dropped in nine points and totaled 4 blocks! She has had 2 or more blocks in the Stars last eight games.

It’s time to flip the script

The Men’s basketball team has not beaten the Benedictine Eagles since 2013. The Stars lost earlier this season by 11 but are 6-4 since then. This is a very talented team and Saturday is turning out to be one of the biggest games of the season. The Stars and Eagles will battle it out at 2 p.m. Come out and support!
