It is a GREAT time to be a Star! A hot start to the calendar year is just the way they drew up it.
Men and Women’s basketball is in full swing and both having winnings records as they enter the heart of their in-conference play. Wednesday night’s Blackout theme at Igini Sports Forum for the Men’s game vs. Aurora University was electric and fans witnessed a 77-62 routing by the Stars. Three Stars scored in double figures as they swept the season series against the Spartans.
Men’s Highlights
- Jackson Smith continues to lead the Stars in scoring as he dropped 22 points Wednesday night. He was 7-13 from the field including 3-4 from three point range. He’s averaging 16.7 points per game this season and has scored in double-figures now in 11 straight games. In addition, his 41 point night back on January 7th was a career high for the junior standout.
- Tyler Guest has impressed in his first season with the Stars. A Chicago native, Guest has five double-doubles this season including two in the past four games. He’s been a staple to their success this season.
The Women’s five game win streak has been an impressive one, beating their opponents by 11 points or more. And the Stars defend their home court, posting a 5-2 record at Igini. They will look to keep the winning streak going this weekend at Lakeland University in Wisconsin.
Women’s Highlights
- Alexis Hoskins has scored in double-figures in each game during the win streak. She is shooting 47% from three in the past five games.
- In their most recent win over Rockford University, the Stars scored an impressive 35 points off the Regents 29 turnovers.
Men’s Volleyball
The Men’s volleyball season is officially underway. The Stars took on the North Central Cardinals on Tuesday in an exhibition match to kick off the 2020 season. Led by All-American Ethan Klosak and First Team Jack McGuire, the Stars rank second in the NACC Preseason Poll.
The Stars first game is January 23rd at Marian University. Their first home game will come on February 7th vs. Fontboone University from St. Louis, MO.
