Dominican University will reinstate the mask mandate for all individuals inside campus buildings regardless of vaccination status effective Monday, Aug. 9.

The decision came on an email from Barrington Price, vice president of Student Success & Engagement on Aug. 4 , following the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance released on July 27.

“This change, which we hope will be temporary, is in response to the CDC’s recent recommendation that even fully vaccinated people wear a mask in public indoor settings in areas of substantial or high transmission,” the email says.

The CDC on July 29 added Cook County as an area of “substantial community transmission” of COVID-19, which means that 50-99 new cases per 100,000 population are added on a weekly average.

According to usafacts.org, Aug. 3 reported a total of 686 cases and six deaths. The seven-day average of cases is 561 and three deaths.

DU continues to offer free Johnson & Johnson vaccine clinics from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. today and Saturday, Aug. 28 in Parmer 107 and Tuesday, Aug. 17 in Springer Suite upon registration

As of the week of July 23-29, DU has zero positive cases according to the COVID-19 Dashboard.
