MBA student Abdulrahman Bin Omran died in a water accident while on vacation in West Virginia on Aug.24.
Abdulrahman Bin Omran was a graduate student in the Brennan School of Business with a concentration in accounting.
Bin Omran went swimming in the rapids of the New River Gorge National River with three other friends and unfortunately, he did not make it out.
Professor Dick Walstra, professor of graduate accounting remembers Bin Omran as an engaging fine young man who worked hard and interacted great with his class.
“We had a good relationship and he was one of my favorites. He was the type of student that made the classroom better with his willingness to participate and his personality has always stuck with me” says Walstra.
When speaking Friday, Walstra recalled his favorite memory of Bin Omran, “We would role play in class to act out different business problems and he would just immerse himself in the role and make the whole classroom laugh.”
Walstra stated that Bin Omran was the type of student that professors want, students that have active participation with a strong learning process and Walstra realized the strength of the teacher-student relationship when the sad news was delivered.
“I was sitting at my desk when I received the email and my heart dropped, it made me realize that students have a huge impact on me. He was more than just a name and his personality will always stick with me, this is a loss for all us.”
