On Sept. 21, 1969, Dominican University, then known as Rosary College, held a concert starring jazz composer and bandleader Edward Kennedy “Duke” Ellington.
The concert was held in what is now the Lund Auditorium. Non-students paid $4, which is now worth $34, while Rosary and Concordia students paid $3, which is now worth $25.
In April 1969, President Richard Nixon awarded Ellington the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his contribution to music in the United States.
