Dominican could receive just over $8 million in relief from the latest COVID-19 relief package, the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 that includes $40 billion for colleges and universities.
When the relief will get here is unknown. Dominican has yet to receive the funds, said Mark Titzer, vice president for finance and treasurer.
He did comment that the simulations have been very accurate in the past.
This latest package exceeds the $14 billion that colleges and universities received last March and the $22.7 billion that they received in December.
“I’m super excited about this,” he said.
The estimated $8 million comes from a simulation released by The American Council on Education. This money is on top of the $5 million Dominican received in December and the $3 million the university received last March.
As in past relief packages, nonprofit universities, like Dominican, will be required to spend half of their relief package on student grants, writes Kari Murakami of Inside Higher Ed. Dominican students should be prepared to receive just over $4 million in grants.
Senior Alyssa Lendy is happy to receive another grant.
“COVID-19 has definitely been a hard reality check for everyone, but I’m so thankful that more financial relief and resources are being given to college students,” she said.
