Every school has their own traditions in terms of starting the school year. Whether it be an assembly, a pep rally, or a presentation the goal is the same. To initiate the start of the academic term. Dominican University is a catholic institution that lives by the phrase “Caritas et Veritas” or “Love and Truth.” This year, Dominican University started off the year by celebrating the Mass of the Holy Spirit.
The Mass of the Holy Spirit is a Catholic tradition going back centuries and is what marks the official beginning of the school year in many Catholic universities. Dominican University’s tradition of the Mass of the Holy Spirit is rooted in its founding by the Dominican Sisters of Sinsinawa, and the tradition continues as a means of praying for wisdom and guidance for all students, whether returning or new to the campus.
Cardinal Blase Cupich, the Archbishop of Chicago was the celebrant of the Mass and was
present in the Mass of the Holy Spirit.
