Fall has arrived and with it comes to new accessory trends. This season brings a revival of punk and renaissance styles, forming a hybrid-style in accessories. Menswear-inspired shoes and combat boots are trending and top-handle bags add lady-like flair. Jewelry takes a vintage turn with statement necklaces and pearls. Deep jewel tones and grays appear in all sorts of garments and accessories, along with leather. Freshman Kelsey Keithly, an apparel merchandising major, shares her tips on fall accessory trends and models her favorites:
Q: Describe your personal style.
A: Vintage, but streamlined. I like to mix vintage pieces with modern trends.
Q: Who’s your favorite fashion designer? Why?
A: My ultimate favorite is Alexander McQueen because his pieces are so individualized. He experiments and goes to the extremes. All of the runway shows are mystical and show fantasy. I also like Chloe because their line is feminine and classic.
Q: What’s your favorite fall 2013 accessory trend?
A: I really like the top-handle bag because it’s classic. It goes with everything and works with my wardrobe. I also love bold statement necklaces, especially in jewel tones.
Q: Why are accessories important?
A: Having great basics are good, but the right accessory can take an outfit to the next level. Trendy accessories are what separate you from what other people are wearing.
Q: Where’s your favorite place to shop for fall clothes and accessories?
A: Nordstrom Rack has great name brands that will last, but for a very reasonable price. I also like H&M. Their semi-annual sale always has great staple pieces but I also like to buy fads when they’re affordable. I don’t feel bad about buying a fad that will go out of style because it’s so inexpensive.
Q: Describe your “go-to” fall outfit and accessories?
A: A dress with tights, combat or ankle boots and a leather jacket. I pair that with a stackable bracelet and a fun hat if it’s cold.
Q: What factors do you consider when purchasing clothes and accessories (Price, comfort, etc)?
A: I consider whether it’s trendy and “right now.” I shop for those pieces on a bargain at H&M. If I want something that will last, like essentials, I spend more on those because I will invest more in classic, everyday staples.
