Getting used to schedule

Freshmen have to get used to the college lifestyle. High School is far-gone now, no more bells after classes have ended and no regular school class routine schedules to attend. Transitioning from high school to college could be nerve-wracking. Here are some tips to help make your first year successful:
1) Use the student planner. Write down homework assignments and important dates, events and appointments you have to attend.
2) Weekly schedule. Make a list of things you have to accomplish for the week and cross them out as each day passes.
3) Check emails often. Check your DU email first before checking your Facebook.
4) Eat. It is hard to concentrate during class with an empty stomach. Start with breakfast and have snacks throughout the day, especially if you do not have time to stop by the dining hall. But of course eat healthy!
5) Be involved in school. Attend events, career fairs, open houses or join a club, it’s a great way to meet new people! Attend fitness classes, yoga, Zumba or kickboxing; they are free!
6) Manage time. Make sure to study plenty for tests; having your own routine schedule is handy.
7) Get enough sleep. Do not stay up too late on exam days!
8) Use your advisor. Ask your advisor for help when you have a question. Also, if you feel like your struggling with your courses, make sure to see a tutor!
9) Check your tuition status. Spend money wisely and be aware of fees. If you have a monthly tuition bill, take note of what has to be paid for soon and what has a longer deadline.
10)Decide on a major. It is important to know what you want to study. Stop by Career Development to explore different careers.
