Don’t sweat it: new Fitness Center has your back

During the summer, the athletics department updated their fitness center just in time for the 2015-2016 season. One of the racquetball courts was removed to allow for this expansion increasing the available area by one-third.

Additions include: six machines, five platforms, one treadmill, new plates and dumbbells as well as an updated artwork.

The update has already brought positive feedback in terms of the increased amount of students that now use the fitness center.

“My favorite thing about the new fitness center is the layout,” said junior Enrique Rodriguez. “It is larger and has more up- to- date equipment which will allow athletes as well as avid fitness goers more room to train.”

Even faculty members with offices around the fitness center have noticed the influx of students.

“You can sense the buzz surrounding the fitness center,” said Gabryella Johnson, head woman’s basketball coach. “In our first two days we had 300 people use the fitness center which is insane.”

Renovations were funded by a financial contribution from the university as well as staff members from the athletic department. Les Gluszynki, assistant men’s soccer coach, did the designs and artwork.

The fitness center is open from 7a.m.-8 a.m. for faculty only, Monday-Friday, and is open to everyone at 8 a.m., Monday-Friday, with closing and weekend times varying. You can visit for more details regarding the schedule and facilities.
