Stars clip Eagles’ wings, fly into NACC championship match
The second-seeded Dominican University women’s volleyball team (23-9, 10-1 NACC) soared past the visiting third-seeded Benedictine University Eagles (17-16, 9-2 NACC) in the semifinals of the NACC tournament, winning three of four sets for a convincing 3-1 victory. Recently crowned NACC Player of the Year, senior Claire Dezelski fueled the Stars with 18 kills while sophomore Christina Wilson paced the offense, racking up 36 assists in the match. The win catapults the Stars into the NACC tournament final, and with a win, they can secure a bid to the NCAA Division III National Tournament. The Stars will travel to the enemy nest in Madison, Wis. on Nov. 9 to challenge the Edgewood College Eagles (26-7, 11-0 NACC) for the conference crown. UPDATE LATER!!!!!!
Men’s soccer advances to NACC final
The Dominican University men’s soccer team (11-4-2, 8-1-1 NACC), seeded second in the NACC, toppled the fourth-seeded Concordia University Wisconsin Falcons (10-8-2, 6-3-1 NACC) 5-0 to find their way back to the conference championship match. Senior Enzo Berrini netted the Stars’ first two goals, raising his season tally to six, while sophomore Marco Alvarez contributed three points (1 G, 2 A). Freshman Zach Venzon also scored, marking his first goal for the Stars. The Stars will host the Edgewood College Eagles (11-6-3, 5-4-1 NACC) in River Forest on Nov. 9 to seek the conference title. The Dominican University sports teams received heaps of praise by having 19 players named to All-Conference teams, including nine men’s soccer players, six women’s volleyball players, two women’s soccer players and two men’s golfers. The recipients are as follows: Men’s Soccer: senior Robbie Baird (1st team), sophomore Marco Alvarez (1st team), senior Enzo Berrini (1st team), junior Logan Marvin (1st team), junior Gabriel Garcia (2nd team), freshman Alex Rohder (2nd team, All-Freshman, NACC Freshman of the Year), junior Ryan Ybarra (honorable mention), freshman Gabriel Gongora (All-Freshman). Women’s Volleyball: senior Claire Dezelski (1st team, NACC Player of the Year), junior Cheyanne Kelly (1st team, NACC Defensive Player of the Year), sophomore Christina Wilson (1st team), sophomore Caitlen Foote (2nd team), freshman Carri Chambers (All-Freshman), freshman Maddi Zanoni (All-Freshman). Women’s Soccer: senior Courtney Smalarz (2nd team), senior Kelly Petty (2nd team). Men’s Golf: junior Chris Ramirez (All-Conference), sophomore Robert Linz (All-Conference).
