The 2012-13 season has come to an end for the Dominican University women’s basketball team, with the team ending play with a record of 1-24. The Stars were defeated 68-51 by the Rockford College Regents on Feb. 13 after they were plagued by 27 turnovers and shot 20-for-63 from the field. Despite the loss, senior guard Stacy Reynolds earned her sixth double-double with a total of 14 points and 12 rebounds. In the Stars’ last game against the Regents, freshman guard Allie Tapanes secured 10 points for the team.
On Feb. 19, Dominican’s men’s basketball team played tirelessly in the Northern Athletics Conference semifinals against the Aurora University Spartans. The Stars played a strong first half, leading the Spartans in a 20-11 run. Freshman guard Michal Bobek snuck in a back-door layup as sophomore guard Anthony Keener added 16 points to the scoreboard, tying the Stars and Spartans 29-29 in the first half. However, the Spartans opened the first nine minutes of the second half with a 24-11 run, but the Stars refused to go down without a fight. Keener scored his tenth 20-point effort of season, shooting 7-for-17 from the field, 6-for-9 from the three, and nine rebounds. Junior forward Logan Harris added 16 points to the board as junior guard Taylor DeRoo followed with 12 points. Despite the Stars’ competitiveness on the hardwood, they struggled with 22-for-61 from the field and 11-for-32 from the three, falling short against the Spartans with a final score of 71-67.
The Stars’ overall record is 10-17 and 7-9 in the NAC as the final for the 2012-13 season.
