Eagles rise to the occasion, breaking Stars win streak

The Dominican University men’s soccer team had their 104-conference match win streak snapped last Wednesday against the Benedictine University Eagles, falling 1-0.  Despite only mustering one shot on goal, the lone Eagles shot found the back of the net in the 26th minute.  The Stars held a 14-8 shot advantage throughout the match but were unable to counter the early goal as the Eagles caged the Stars pressing attack.  The men’s soccer team will look to get back on track as they travel to Fond du Lac, Wis. to duel with the Marian University Sabres.

Dezelski and Foote light the way as the Stars roll

The women’s volleyball team (13-6, 2-0) opened the IIAC/NACC Challenge on the right foot, downing the Loras College Duhawks and the University of Dubuque Spartans.  The Stars dominated, winning all six sets that were played in convincing fashion.  Sophomore Caitlen Foote totaled 28 kills in the two matches, while senior Claire Dezelski added 25 kills of her own en route to the Stars dismantling of their opponent. Junior Cheyanne Kelly also made a large contribution, compiling 52 digs in the two matches.  The Stars will open the second day of the tournament with a joust against the Wartburg College Knights and then look to ground the Coe College Kohawks.

Women’s soccer drops nail biter, still seek first win

The Stars women’s soccer team (0-6-0, 0-2-0) dropped a closely contested match to the visiting Benedictine University Eagles, 3-2.  Despite a two-goal effort from senior Kelly Petty, the Stars could not quite overcome the shot differential, as they were outshot 18-8 and 9-5 in terms of shots on goal.  Sophomore Sara Stepanovich, who ranks amongst the NCAA Division III leaders in saves per game and total saves, stopping six of the nine attempts she faced.  The Stars will look to break their spell of bad luck as they travel to Fond du Lac, Wis. to battle the Marian University Sabres.

Men’s golf places fifth at Naperville College Invitational
