Women’s softball wins first four conference and start season with impressive overall record

The Women’s softball team started their season with a strong record of 19-7. The Stars kicked off their season mid-March in the Gene Cusic Classic in Fort Myers, Flo. The team won four out of their first five games at the tournament and 10 out of their 12 games in total.

Freshman Michele Behrens and senior Sarah Slouber both posted impressive pitching numbers this season. Behrens has been lights out all season and ranks near the top of almost every

Northern Athletics Collegiate Conference leader board this season. She ranks fourth in the conference in earned run average (2.03) and second in wins (8). Slouber has also had a strong season as she ranks second on the team with five wins and a 2.43 earned run average.

Offensively, freshman Marissa Burns lead the conference in batting average with a remarkable .508 average. Sarah Hausl and Kaitlyn Tripp also rank in the top five of the conference in batting average as Hausl has hit .452 this season and Tripp is batting .433. Burns also ranks third in the conference in runs batted in (25) and has a slugging percentage (total bases divided by at bats) of .708. Sophomore outfielder Ashley Rea leads the conference in stolen bases with 18.

The Stars currently rank fourth in the NACC conference and they will look to continue their strong season for the conference tournament in Milwaukee, Wis. at the end of April.
